12.13.08 - 12.14.08 :: Eighteen-thirty, Michael G. Bauer, and I organized Thank Tank 2008: Going Public, a no-budget, grassroots educational and performative experiment. On the weekend of December 13 and 14, artists and activists convened in various locations throughout Echo Park to redefine their relationship with public space. The nature of Thank Tank 2008 was decentralized and took place in public with the intention of engaging a diverse and intergenerational audience. The project utilized public performance and conversation to activate marginal public spaces such as street corners, buses, parks and parking lots in an ad hoc and celebratory manner.
